2000 - 2010 a decade in review

ehhh yeah i know that isnt exactly a decade, that's 11 years but i dun exactly know which year a decade starts so..... DUN CARE. anyway here goes:

y2k came and went as fast as the second hand passed the "12". the whole hullabaloo was all for nothing. meh. computers crashing my ass. i was waiting for an apocalypse and all u gave was a whimper. underwhelming.

911. i was taking my exams on the morning when it was first reported (prelims? Alevels?) and only found out about the crashing of the twin towers when i got back home. tragedy. one minute of silence pls.

VJC was pretty unmemorable. David Beckham visiting however wasn't. ok next.

Army is where u first learn how to cao keng and not get caught. and a pretty low point in my life i must say. but yay to new frens found. without you, army would be miserable. U guys made it so much more bearable. U know who u are.

A level results. oh yes. when u belong to a so called "top 5 JC" and "scholar batch" of enlistees in BMT and u only get 2As and 2Bs.... oh boy. let's just say.... i was part of the statistics that pulled VJ down and could have done better. not that i really cared for either.

Virgin trip on a plane alone to visit my sister and future bro-in-law with a full head of blonde (yes blonde) hair. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. the hair, not the trip. im not meant to be blonde. and there's a reason u've never seen the pictures. cos it was atrocious. my trip to london, venice, rome, brussels, bruges and cambridge with my sister, however----- AMAZING.

NUS was a whole new ball game altogther. it's like mean girls. only meaner. hell, its a popularity contest in hall. and you've actually gotta be smart to be even part of the game. blk comm was mehhhhh to the max. wrong group of people. could have enjoyed it more. biggest enjoyment thou was dance. i would have died without being part of it. i would have died not being in it. one of the highlights of my university life. i WOULD NOT have gone back to hall after my SEP, but dance made me.... and speaking of SEP.....

SEP in France. Big pat on the back. i did it, i enjoyed it and i LOVED it. even the parts where i was suffering. it's a country i love to hate and i hate to love. it soooo screwed up its good. there are parts where i'd rather choose to forget (like that time i got detained in berlin's airport and got sent straight back to france becos of my visa. darkest 12 hours of my life. and wasting 500bucks while im at it). and it's also where i turned into an alcoholic. i mean seriously 2.50euros wine? A FULL BOTTLE? tell me how to resist.... i cant believe i did it, on my own. in a foreign language. beat that.

coming back to hall. what a wonderful final year i've had. the really failed Rag, Design and FYP, culture night, 8gz and funka, DU, command, final exams. i did it all. full circle. and i enjoyed and loved every single minute of it TTM. i got to know new people whom i love and still do. and yay to no more having to study (out of obligation).

And then there was the grad trip to taiwan. INSANE. grad trip part 2 to indochina. INSANE. good times. i miss the days, when u are accountable for nothing but ur grades. u choose whatever u wanna do. that's it. this whole working thing? TOO DAMN HARD.

Work. oh boy, work. where do i even start. It was tough man, transitioning from a student to a working adult. it got so bad i cried at work. the whole waterworks. but evetually i got used to waking up at 7 (then 705am, then 710am, to now 715am haha, what can i say. imma slacker) every single morning, walking to the mrt, taking MyPaper, bua-ing strangers in the train. Coming into office being a generic cubicle rat. geez. repeat sequence for the next 40 years. But i got to say i have to thank my lucky stars for being able to secure such a good job. comfortable pay. hell i even got promoted in 2 years which is much faster than normal. so, we shall see what's next.

Then there's there trip to US. Alone, albeit not by choice. i've learnt to survive alone. to entertain myself. to not cry when i want to cry. yeah. it's not tough. but its not easy either. and i have to do this. for the rest of my life. this was just a prelude.

Of cos there were the low points. stuff that I wished didnt happen but did. stuff that i wish i have done, but didnt. shoulda woulda coulda. but its life. u choose what u wanna do, and u deal with the consequences. right? no use crying over spilt milk. or at least thats what i tell myself at the end of the day.

So yeah. that's it. 10 (or 11) years of ups and downs. it was worth the ride. I wonder what i'll be writing in Dec 2020... oh boy i would be 37 by then. Grrreeeaat.
