Malacca Bound... and BACK!

Made a short trip to the rustic town of Malacca on Saturday with a group of my Rover Scouts mates. And I must say it was rather enjoyable, albeit all my whining and grumbling, no thanks to the sweltering heat.
In front of Baba House Hotel. Say Cheese!

I loved how the place just screams “old-school”… there were people making and selling clogs, shops selling curious knick knacks and pet shops littered with roosters, iguanas and 2 very sad caged in puppies *heart melts*.

Street art at its best

I think it just ate a cat... or a fat goose. either way it's just gross

Bring the word "backwater" to a whole new level

Clogs galore!!

Resting in a comic book store

The heat though, was none too pleasant… and it was made worse by the fact that there are no public buses in Malacca. Yeap, you heard me right. It just seems like the most ridiculous thing NOT to do…. And yet, it really does NOT exist. And one thing’s for sure, age really is catching up fast on all of us. Cindy summed it up best- “5years ago we used to be able to trek, build towers and tree-houses like nobody’s business… but now we can’t even take the sun man”

Roaming in the streets of Malacca.... notice how the sun is shining oh so brightly

And you know what the body needs most when it encounters heat? It makes you crave for a nice big bowl of CHENDOL. Slurp-a-licious…. Guess what, this is the first time I ever ate one whole bowl of chendol myself. I know I am a huge “mountain turtle” but yeah… it’s my new favourite dessert now.... just look at the copious amount of gula melaka!

I *HEART* CHENDOL

Had a chance to eat some chicken rice balls…. Dun really like it. It’s cold… and I like my chicken roasted, not white and fatty. But at least I tried yeah?

Weapons of mass destruction...

Prepare for battle!!

Had a fantastic dinner of satay celup, which is basically satay steamboat… a bit unhygienic ah, but as the saying goes- “the more unhygienic the food, the better it tastes”…. And god knows how many times they actually change the satay base, or rather, do they change it at all? Hehehe. Curiosity killed the cat and I dun think I wanna be a cat today… so I guess ignorance is bliss in this case.

And the best way to end off a perfect holiday? ICE COLD BEER!! Woohoo! *hic hic*

3 girls and 2 buckets of beer is not a good combination. hehe

*hic hic*

All in all, here’s the rundown of the wonderful trip:

Cost of bus ticket: S$23
Cost of Hotel: RM40
Cost of Chendol: RM1.70
Cost of Satay Celup dinner: RM10
Cost of Ice Cold Beer: RM12

Having a time of my life with 10 good friends: Priceless

Child Adoption in Singapore

I was just thinking, if i don't ever get married (which is a highly possible scenerio), is it possible to adopt a child as a single parent in Singapore. And after much googling and searching, i realised that

(1) the Applicant must be at least 25 years of age;
(2) the Applicant must be at least 21 years older than the child whom he/she is seeking to adopt;
(3) the Applicant must be a resident in Singapore;
(4) the child must be resident in Singapore;
(5) the parent or guardian of the child must consent to the application; and
(6) the spouse of the Applicant must give his/her consent if it is not a joint application

point no. 5 basically wiped out all my dreams of ever becoming a father.... I don't get the whole only 2-hetero-parent family is an effective family, it's like total bullcrap to me. Because logically speaking having one or 2 gay parents is better than having none at all. Right? Of cos i am talking about rational adoptive parents here, whether they are single/married heterosexuals or homosexuals.

Personally i think it is ridiculous to not even explore this avenue in giving parentless children and childless adults a chance at having a family. Bull crap.

Below is an ad about gay adoption rights (cant find one on single parents) which is pretty much my point.

UPDATE!!! (part deux)

Here's a 30sec update on the current state of things:

1. Totally loving the life i have right now. Wake up at 10am (yes i still wake up that early no thanks to my mum's constant nagging), surf the net, shit, eat lunch, come back and surf net, watch vcd, afternoon nap, eat dinner, surf net, watch tv, READ BOOK!!, sleep. Farking paradise.

2. FINALLY got my hair cut by an androgynous looking hairdresser (named Alika no less). And it made me realise cutting hair is an ART..... the way he flicks my hair, is like he's throwing fairy dust around... the way he whips out his scissors, tilts his head when he decides where to cut is like a dance on its own... totally theraputic to look at. (i am not a pyscho stalker... its just fun to zone out and stare at something. i just hope he wun think i am a freak.... hehe)

3. I am on a mission to try out all sweaters and jackets at fashion boutiques! i think i look good in them, no? hehe. Loves the sweaters at Zara. Hates the price.

4. I just found out a lot of my frens are like anti-govt. which i dun get... cause so far in my 23 years of living, there is nothing in my life that i wanna complain abt that's the govt's fault. And conversations abt last week's elections is as new as saying platform shoes is the new black. PAP won Aljunied. get over it. NEXT.

5. i have exercised a grand total of ZERO hours this hoildays, despite the fact that i have to take ippt in less than 4 weeks time. I need to haul ass.

6. Dreaming wierd dreams....

7. Missin my floormates. Already.

8. Going to Malacca next weekend!! Anyone needs anything there just gimme a buzz!

9. Currently reading Borrowed Time by Paul Monette... a memoir about a gay dude with AIDS that chronicles his relationship with his boyfriend. Both died of the disease. Read another of his memoirs abt his childhood, when i was in sec school i think, called Becoming A Man. i think my sis asked me to read it. she said that it was a good read. and it was. Check it out if u have the money and the time. (check out on how you can help with situation of youth getting AIDS a few posts down. Buy a dog tag!!)

10. Amazing Race and Survivor coming to an end next week. What am i going to do without my reality tv.... i dunno man. i am like seriously gonna die.

Alrighty den. Laters.

X-MEN Last Stand Trailer!!

What i like about the Xmen movies, besides being a spectacular visual feast, is the fact that they purposely parallel the plight of all social outcasts, as they struggle to win acceptance in a world where they don't "fit in."

Notice the conflicting reactions to the "cure" of the mutant gene (the activists, the anti-activists and those that pretty much want things to remain status quo), as well as the arguments between mutants who can "pass" and those who can't.

These comic books were perhaps more empowering for most social outcasts than any "how to be normal" instruction manual....

Without further ado, here it is, the 7min trailer of the best comic-to-big-screen movie:

PS: totally admiring Angel (the dude with the wings). i wanna fly away from here too.

The WORLD is at my FINGERTIPS!!

As you can see i really am very free, free until i was daydreaming about the places in the world that i WANT to go with the one i love before i die. here are just some of them:

Taking a long, lazy stroll in Central Park, in the middle of autumn, holding hands with the one i love. The vibrant colours of amber, red, mahogany and olive splashed in front of us. we sit down on a bench and just watch as time passes by and the sun sets.

Go on a hiking trip in Alberta in spring with the one i love. ride some horses. Pitch a tent in front of a lake. go fishin'. Drink cold beer. eat bbq steaks and potatoes. go to sleep. life is good.

Ever since i watched Serendipity, i SWORE to myself i must go to New York at least once in my life.... during Xmas. We binge on New York Cheesecake, drink champange, ice skate in front of the huge Xmas Tree at Rockefellar Center and countdown to a Merry Xmas... And then head back for some wild passionate sex till New Year's eve. hiak hiak hiak.

Mykonos in the heat of summer. getting lost in the streets. soaking in the sun.... maybe rent a yacht or something and go diving in the Mediterranean. And at the end of the day, we get pissed drunk and we repeat the same thing all over again the next day.

Lost in translation in Rio, Brazil..... basically just people watching at Ipanema Beach. Viewing the magnificent landscape of the mountains and the waves of the ocean. We play beach volleyball with the locals, lie on the beach and leave only when we get roasted to a golden brown tan.

As you can see i am quite the dreamer and there is something quite wrong with the beautiful pictures above:

1. i have absolutely no money to speak of

2. i have no special someone at the moment god dammit

this is such a torture..... i shall stop now.

Some kinda education huh?

the more i take exams in NUS, the more i feel like i have no idea what i am doing..... just had my soil mechanics paper.... i was basically dumping in formulas, frantically flipping thru notes and textbooks, praying to find similar questions...... fortunately i did for a few parts....

So after 2 1/2 hours of manic inference (which i am quite a master at already), i walked out of the exam hall, not knowing where the past 150mins went, not knowing wat the question actually requires, not knowing what i actually did, but basically just manic photocopying. its like i just zoned out for a period of time.....

some kinda education huh.

Revenge of the slut

Ok, i am not a mean person. And i hate to waste my time on nonsensical remarks. but it has come to my knowledge that some people have been posting anonymous vicious remarks abt me in my blog.

i could very well just delete them, but i choose to believe that i am better than that. So i will just leave it there and let it rot itself away into oblivion.

And while i am at anonymous remarks, let me just say that they are very annoying. why dun u just leave ur name down? come on, do everyone here a favour.

PS: i am not a deluded bitch, just a resident B Block slut. so i guess that makes me a deluded slut.

Just me and my "auntie" red shorts

Sigh, something happened during dinner today that made me sad

Tat: eh Cheong Chye why are u wearing those shorts?

Me: why eh what's wrong?

Tat: very auntie eh.

At that point, the whole dining hall goes quiet, everyone stops what they are doing and dart their eyes at my shorts. i swear i could hear the crickets mating somewhere out there....

first of all, let me just clarify that that red shorts of mine is

a) not a pair of boxers
b) not auntie. and neither am i
c) and is totally 100% from Zara. Madrid.

I dun think Zara would produce auntie shorts, thank you very much. DAMN U TAT!!!!

Model Behaviour

OK. some people surf the net playing games, some people surf the net to chat. Hell, some people surf the net lookin' at people gettin' it on.

But me? i surf the net looking at gorgeous pictures of high end fashion labels. or as the french calls it- haute couture.... even the name has a distinct air of superiority.

And the more i look at the good looking bastards and bitches, the more i wanna be a model..... not just any model. a SUPERMODEL!! Someone who stomps and struts the runway... from Milan, to New York, from Madrid to Paris.

haha having a zoolander moment here but seriously, look at the recent publicity pictures of Dolce & Gabbana. it's a teeny weenie bit gay but who the hell cares.... i wanna be able to look good, wear nice clothes, pout and make big bucks all at the same time......

So all u talent scouts out there..... i swear i will do whatever it takes to be HUGE. i noe i am not the most body beautiful person out there but heck, there's photoshop..... and i look edgy god dammit. so there ya go. Make me a SUPERMODEL model model model model *echos*

House of the 2nd Floorers

2nd Floor Tribute!!

Slightly tipsy. after the inaugural 2nd floor supper/drinking session (check out the OBSCENE and COPIOUS amts of liquor in front of the picture). which is probably going to be our last. Kinda bittersweet end to my 2 years in KR. Bitter because only 4 out of 16 of us will be left (myself included) but sweet becos memories that i shared with all of you will be kept in my heart forever.

Here's a tribute to all you awesome 2nd floorers out there:

See Yong- thanks for all the time you came to my room to bitch abt hall politics and accompanied me to suntan at the pool. your laughter is infectious and i thank god that u will still be around with me next year.

Jiann Haur- i dun really know u that well, since u stay at the other end of the floor, but i appreciate your support of Da Bomb Comm when i was still part of it.

Tong Dee- I thank you for all the countless times i borrow formal belt, long sleeve shirt from you for all the dance and presentation i had. You dun appear very often, but the few times u do, u bring life to the place.

Zhe Shien- Part of the threesome of Desmond and Weimin. Also, i thank you for lending me formal belt and socks for my dance pracs (as you can see i am quite the leech-er). and also for being the butt of all jokes during gatherings. hahaha

KeeLong- you came in only this year. but no matter where u go, you make your presence felt. And this is the same when u are on our floor. Thanks for being part of 2nd floor!!

Jayston- i dun know u too well either, but yeah. thanks for being part of 2nd floor!

Eugene (alumni 2nd floor-er)- dude, i do feel bad that we indirectly forced u to move up to 6 floor. but thanks for all the opera singing when you were ard. haha. a true chameleon.

Zhonghan- i do feel bad for the little fiasco we had. and i do apologise for everything. shit happens thats all i can say. Thanks for all the guitar tips, althou i stopped learning. and for all the music sharing sessions. you will be sorely missed when u go Imperial next year. dun come back a cao ang moh!

Desmond- i enjoyed the times we played mahjong at your place. but i hated the way u treated pple like shit whenever u didnt feel like it. but i guess that's u huh? haha. and thanks for downloading the movies for me. u pirate!

Weimin- it's unfortunate that u live opposite me, yet i probably know the least abt you. but i did enjoy the few times we had and for being such a considerate neighbour.

Chong Yunn- what can i say. fellow dancer, fellow funka teammate. thanks for keeping me sane during funka practices (u know why). Hopefullly i had been a nice neighbour. haha!

Daniel- Eh Mr Perh. You are like always not ard because of ur race car thingy. but i guess we had fun watching Rent together with JP, and when i went to ur room to talk cock the other time. Good luck with the race car!!

JP- i am glad you came into my life. you are one wierd character..... always talking without going thru your da nao (big brain).... and what often comes out are often one liners that will stun even the most sedate of men. "Thanks" for all the whining and groaning that emits from your room whenever you get xian or get stuck doing tutorials and lab reports. Sorry ur NOC dream didnt work out, but at least u still have SEP!!

Chazz- what can i say. u are da best la, best fren! i thank you for accepting who i am, but i hate it that u always make me rush my assignments so u can take mine and copy!!! haha. but seriously,
i thank you and JP for moving up to 2nd floor. It is the best thing that ever happen to me. You will definitely be missed and i do hope that u will keep the promise u made to urself. otherwise u are not a man. Do come online once in a while when u are gone. otherwise i will skin you alive. you got that?? Life will never be the same without u here....

So that's all from me.... tears are rolling down, slowly but surely, as i type this. you all will be sorely missed when u are gone, and i do treasure the times we shared, for being a phantom floor, but not so phantom among ourselves. It has been an AWESOME AWESOME 2 years.... and life wudnt be the same without you guys. Take care..... laters ma bros.

Mes Amis du LAF3203...

Its funny how people always start missing things that they dun usually give a damn abt, right before it disappears. take my french class for example. I used to have a love-hate relationship with french classes. it takes up 6 hours of my time per week (not including translating chunks of alien language), i always feel stressed going to class, afraid that the tutor would ask me questions that je ne comprends pas.... the tonnes of essays and comprehensions.

But now that my final french module is abt to come to an end, i kinda am gonna miss my frens. i am going to miss how dingying always complain to me how sick she is, i am going to miss how xiaowen always complains abt being tired, how we always am4 chio3 (silent laugh) whenever boon hian does something OUT OF THIS WORLD... i am going to miss my twin Siang Chye (somehow french pple cannot differentiate our names) and all the new frens i have made. i am going to miss french classes and that's the truth. no matter how much i deteste the language, it's going to be part of me forever. at least i hope.

gonna miss all of u, mes amis!!

this is like the worst week ever. i got backache, i got lao sai, i got backache again, i got cheated to go to NEWater plant, that stupid tour guide treated all of us NUS students like lame primary school kids...... still got wat. oh i tought i lost my phone, only to realise it was in my jeans all along (i am such a GENIUS!!!) and after all that running in the rain to arts den to central lib den back to hall. seriously. ta ma de.

den i went to wala wala for the first time (therefore the incorrect spelling), gotten high, and all my troubles became soooooo much clearer AFTER the alcohol, which cost me 19bucks. wahhhh seriously.

Daniel Powter had a bad day, i think i am having a bad week..... no no make that a bad semester.

Monday, April 03, 2006

Quote from Nicolas Chaplin:

"i don't support marriage. But that doesn't mean i don't support sexual relations ah!"

only in his lessons do you get to talk about sex.... and stuff. really gonna miss his lessons once this semester is over.

After weeks and weeks of sweat, Dance Uncensored '06 finally came to an end last nite. Kinda bittersweet as always.... having mild withdrawal symptoms now. I guess as humans, we hold dear what is close to our hearts, but all good things must come to an end. It may be my last dance nite so, yeah. Thoroughly enjoyed myself the past 2 nites... cause it reminds me of last year, my very first DU.... and i got to do it with my bestest pal yet again. so thats always good....

Gotta thank my partner Olea from Kissing a Fool, Celia the Slut and Xinwei my first love from The Ultimate Betrayal.... i do apologize if i made u girls fall suring those stunt carrying sessions... yeah, i am not so strong hehe. And also for accidentally bua-ing places where i am not suppose to bua.... erm yes. you know wat i mean.

To the Bingjia, Yanhe, Shawn and Jinxian, the guys from kissing a fool, good job y'all..... definitely not amateurs in my opinions. We have all improved tremendously since the first practice so be proud.

To the girls who help me put on my make up.... i cudnt have done it without you. So thanks to Aili, Xinli, Huizhi and Peichoo.

And to all other dancers that i have worked with, thank you for this memory, i will hold dear to my heart.

Lastly to my bestest friend Chazz for sharing this wonderful experience with me despite being a royal pain in the ass!! Smoking his lungs away, as well as mine from 2nd hand smoke.... hopefully we get to do this next year, thou that is highly unlikely.

So yeah, that's it for dance for now. Back to reality and studying. Cya folks for RAG!!

i think i just realised something-- i'd always need something to fix.

i try to fix other people's problems, i try to fix their lives, i try to make everyone happy, hoping that by fixing someone else, it'll make me happy that i exist... But the truth is, it's me who needs fixing. but no one seems to get it.

I'd always need something to fix, and that's going to get me nowhere

French tutorial lesson with Nicolas Chaplin was a hoot! It always ends up being a place for him to demonstrate how unorthodox and politically incorrect he is.

Case in point being:

*insert french-accented English wherever appropriate*

"Technology is a very scary thing ah (he speaks singlish)! For example in India, 3/4 of the population are males. You noe why ah? Because when the women use western technology to see the sex of the bébé, they abort if it's a girl. So the government can either turn all the men gay, or all the men will fight for the girls ah!"

-Nicolas Chaplin, 20 March 2006

right. nuff said.
P/S: he lives at seletar air base... absolutely ridiculous... but super fun nonetheless.

I shall name today's entry ---- "Curiosity Killed The Cat"

As far as i could remember, my weight usually hovers around 65kg... 66kg MAX. Little did i know that middle-age weight problems would strike me so soon... and i had to be kaypoh enuff to discover this awful truth myself.

Day: March 17th
Time: 1305hrs
Venue: Arts Forum Free Heart and Blood screening

Me: Eh Robson, free one leh! Go leh go leh.
Robson: erm, dun want la, i wanna go library.
Me: Dun be a dick. Come accompany me.

3mins later...

Me: excuse me, i finished filling the form.
Medical officer 1: page 2 and 3 also?
Me: oh. there's a page 2 and 3?? Sorry sorry
MO1: it's ok boy, take your time ah, take your time.... (looks at me like i am some kinda freak who cant wait to do a health screening)

1min later while queueing up to have my height and weight taken...

Me: *spills water onto myself while taking a drink*
MO1: Relax ok boy, take your time ah, take your time (*uses the same look she gave previously*)

-note to self.... kill that damn bitch.

1min later...

MO2: take off your shoes and we will measure your height and weight.
Me: *steps onto machine*
MO3: 179cm.....
Me: *dammit i shrunk 1cm.... thats not good*
MO3: ..... SIXTY NINE POINT FIVE KG (thats 69.5 for those who are numerically challenged)
Me: i'm sorry, what??? 69kg? OH MY GAWD.
MO3: you forgot the point five.
Me: you dun say...

-note to self.... scrape previous thot.... kill ALL those damn bitches.

it's official.... i am fat. And for those who keep saying i'm not, tell that to that damn weighing machine.

i am APPALLED by the disgusting ways we are destroying the earth.

1. my structural lecturer keeps printing and printing and REprinting the same sets of notes over and over.... because some asshole wants the newly amending powerpt slides, which changes every lecture. seriously. no shit. what is WRONG WITH U PPLE!! Stop asking him to print the same thing!! i can practically play photo-hunt with my notes.

2. the countless sets of Sunday Times that lie unread thats left outside my hall evey... well, sunday. It disgusts me so.... *i swear i can hear the trees in the amazon screaming for help right now*

3. if you wanna da bao from the dining hall, please make it a point NOT to take the spoons... i am sure u have ur own in your room. and try not to take the plastic bags.... its just a 3min walk back to your room.

4. the ignorant bigots in my block that SIMPLY REFUSE to off the air con in the lounge... and guess who has the previleged job of offing them for u? rhetorical question.... but seriously. off the farking air con.

i know i sound very angsty.... as a matter of fact i am. but the next time u complain how hot the weather is, or how crazy its raining when its not suppose to rain, think abt the time u photocopied notes on single side, think abt the time u on the air con when its already freezing outside, think of the time u read this post and chose to ignore it and then tell me whether u should be complaining or not in the first place.

Nuff said.

i am terribly excited about the coming june holidays.... seriously. i have so many plans. although all tentatively, it just sounds super exciting.

i decided to apply for the Asia version of The Amazing Race with my best friend.... it's franchised to AXN and will is gonna be the original format as the American version, but the prize money is reduced by to a tenth, US$100000. But it's still worth a shot i guess. SERIOUSLY hope i get selected.

I think i am also gonna apply for work and travel in USA thang. Always wanted to go there but never had the chance. Till now no one expressed interest in going together so probably i will be doing it alone, if i am gonna go for it. who knows, i may have a time of my life there. (PS whoever reads this and wanna go with me, TELL ME NOW)

If either of those 2 aint gonna work out, i guess i will be working, like for once, in my life. I dunno... i dun mind waiting tables, i dun mind working at Kino, i dun mind handing out towels at a gym.... seriously, i dun mind anything. i just wanna work.

OH and i am contemplating joining rag dance again, since the last experience was fan-freaking-tabulous. seriously. nothing beats the feeling of performing under the hot sun with body paint all over. budden, i dun wanna be lead anymore.... it's too much responsibility. and too much work... for a lazy ass person like me.

ok and this is totally non sequitter but dammit, Brokeback Mountain lost to Crash for Best Picture at the Oscars. i loved crash, but i guess i loved brokeback more..... Ang Lee was robbed! Bummer...

Friday, March 03, 2006

had a super relaxing day suntanning at the pool..... it feels so good just to laze ard, not using my brain, and get roasted. i mean, since the fortune teller said i need sun in my life, and the sun star is shinning especially bright in the year of the dog, i figured i could really use some sun to unscrew my screwed up life....

THANK GOD my prof decided to postpone the coming test till 2 weeks later. he's nice in this way... althou i seriously catch no ball for his lectures. the longer it drags the better for me man. hehe. den i can do other more pressing stuff.... like trying to figure out my screwed up life....

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

every living cell in my body is rejecting chemistry... nothing is going into my brain and i am 12 hours away from my mid term test. i am so SO screwed.

No shit.

Monday, February 27, 2006

My Living with Maths lecturer spent 30mins teaching the class how to tell the time..... which to me is totally embarrassing (esp if there were foreign students in that class) and farking retarded... why did i spend 5600 bucks a year to let UNIVERSITY lecturers teach me how to tell time? this is like.... farking retarded. Like it brings the word "retarded" to a whole new level.... like a level outta this world..... needless to say, i felt that i've wasted my time and i left halfway thru.... so SO retarded

on a totally unrelated note.... i hope this sem passes by.... quickly. pronto, if possible..... its like sophomore slump...... i dun understand half the things i study.... and i have to dance....3 out of 5 days in school (which will only increase as performance day draws nearer).... and there are so many tv shows on... ta ma de. Its like the cosmic forces are playing a big joke on me. Like "oh, let's try and experiment. let's make cheong chye SUPER busy, give him tonnes of stuff to do and see when's his breaking point. this is gonna be SUPER FUN!" kinda joke. Which in my opinion, is just plain spastic, and not funny at all.

The Maker Makes
by Rufus Wainwright from Brokeback Mountain soundtrack

One more chain I break
To get me closer to you
One more chain does the maker make
To keep me from bustin' through
One more notch I scratch
To keep me thinkin' of you
One more notch does the maker make
Upon my face so blue
Get along, little doggies
Get along, little doggies
One more smile I fake
And try my best to be glad
One more smile does the maker make
Because he knows I'm sad
Oh Lord, how I know
Oh Lord, how I see
That only can the maker makes
A happy man of me
Get along little doggies
Get along little doggies
Get along...

ok, i finally caught Brokeback Mountain on the big screen last night with a fren of mine. And unless you have been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you would have noticed the Brokeback Phenomena thats typhoon-ing its way through every part of the world. From fashion houses like Prada and Dolce & Gabbana adopting cowboy inspired pieces in their summer collection to the countless (seriously, countless) spoofs of the movie, seen at youtube.com. there is certainly no way of evading this wave of cowboy attack.

And if you don't already know, this movie IS a fine masterpiece, sweeping major awards like The Golden Lion at the Venice film fest, and more recently at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs and also leading the upcoming Oscars wth 8 noms. Without sounding too amateurish, i shall attempt to give my 2 cents about this movie.

The premise of this story is pretty simple. While working together one summer of 63 at Brokeback Mountain, 2 cowboys, Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist forms a strong friendship that develops into a sexual bond that none of them ever imagined. Over the next 20 years, they try to lead seperate lives, but find themselves returning to the majestic mountain to rekindle their love each year. Alas, the tale of Romeo-loves-Romeo turns to a bitter end as something tragic happens. Through many ups and downs, the only thing constant in their lives is their forbidden love.

The casting of the 4 main leads couldn't have been better, each giving the performances of their lives. From Heath Ledger's protrayal of the gruff and seemingly-incapable-of-human-emotions Ennis, to the wide-eyed romantic Jack, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. From Princess Diaries' Anne Hathaway, shedding her clothes and exposing some lovely boobies (hehe), and Michelle Williams doing the same, all in the name of art.

Dubbed the "gay cowboy movie", it is a tricky business to get the pacing and tone of the movie right. Over doing it will draw laughs from the mainstream audience while under doing it will, well, anger the gay crowd. But the end result is simply sublime and tasteful. To quote an 8-days article, ""I ain't queer", Ennis says early on, to which Jack replies, "Me neither". Ang Lee doesn't force the gay issue. His is a universal love story of desire and denial and lives half lived, a romance monumental yet intimately told with delicacy, lyricism and sorrow."

This film explores the possiblity of the idea that if the outside world didn't exist and it's only you and there is no one to judge you, would you still love the person you love today, and making the same decisions as you would have. And if you think you may cringe watching the sex scenes, i have to say that they are seriously nothing compared to say... heterosexual stuff like... i dunno. you get the drift.

So keep and open mind and do catch it if you have the time, cost it's worth every single cent in my opinion, cos if you see a cliche, you can always find something more complex at the bottom of it.

I BRUISE EASILY by Natasha Bedingfield

My skin is like a map, of where my heart has been
And I can't hide the marks, but it's not a negative thing
So I let down my guard, drop my defences, down by my clothes
I'm learning to fall, with no safety net, to cushion the blow

I bruise easily, so be gentle when you handle me
There's a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree
I bruise easily, can't scratch the surface without moving me
Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily

I found your finger prints on a glass of wine
Do you know your leaving them all over this heart of mine too
If I never take this leap of faith I'll never know
So I'm learning to fall with no safety net to cushion the blow

I bruise easily, so be gentle when you handle me
There's a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree
I bruise easily, can't scratch the surface without moving me
Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily

Anyone who, can touch you, can hurt you, or heal you
Anyone who, can reach you, can love you, or leave you

So be gentle
So be gentle
So be gentle
So be gentle

I bruise easily, so be gentle when you handle me
There's a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree
I bruise easily, can't scratch the surface without moving me
Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily

I bruise easily
I bruise easily

ok, so once in a while you chance upon a haunting track sang by an unknown singer, and right away, you are captivated by the voice, the way he sings and basically, fall in love with him/her (the music, not the person).

And for me, right now, the person is Rufus Wainwright. And the song in question is The Maker Makes, from the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack. OMG i dun think i will ever get sick of hearing that song (but i am afraid my neighbours will).

So me being me, having nothing much to do (at least that's what i tell myself), i google-d him and realised that he isnt exactly very "unknown". in fact he has quite a number of albums under his belt and sang for a number of movie soundtracks as well, including Moulin Rouge and Shrek. And i was so stupid, i didnt even notice i already had one of his songs in my playlist (the one from Moulin Rouge). Hmm, he looks kinda wierd looking.... fugly even, as what my friend lynn wud have said (i like the word fugly... it's like the new black).

ok, and he's piano trained since he was like, a baby.... and was touring with his family since the age of 14... so yeah he's kinda cool.... and it doesnt hurt that he an an incredible voice!

And also, he's openly gay....... wassup with gay people and the music industry, you ask? i have no idea.... somehow all the good singers are gay..... the lead singer from Queen is gay. The guy from Greenday, something armstrong, is supposedly gay, i think. Mark Feehily from Westlife, the only one that can sing in my opinion, came out of the closet a few months back. Erm, Elton John, George michael are all queerer than queer.... and of cos Stephen Gately from the now defunct Boyzone. OMG gay is infiltrating the world!! Kill'em all!! (right.... me being a liberal person, dun really care. As long as they give me good music, i dun give a damn if they are gay, bi, str8 or trans.... hahaha)

ok here attached are some of the abovementioned fugly (YES! i said it again) RUFUS WAINWRIGHT. if anyone is interested in his songs, lemme noe. i can transfer them to u!

I think i have run out of creative juices.... i spent the last 5 mins thinking of how to open today's post. but here it goes anyway.

1. I got my my first french test and i am glad to say i scored rather decently! haha so proud of myself. JE NE SUIS PAS SUCKY AT FRENCH! haha. but then again.... confirm plus guarantee plus CHOP CHOP CHOP gonna S/U.

2. Watched a dance production by NUS Dance Emsemble with my fellow dancers It was well worth my time and the pieces were stunning to say the least. PLUS! i saw a fat woman with some serious cleavage. In the words of Lijin, "If her cleavage look like her ass, what does her ass look like?" that woman should seriously wear push up bra before gravity gets her good

3. Memoirs of a Red Autumn (KR production). The set was beautifully set up. the songs were well written. the band was fantastic. On the downside, there was no plot. and it was farrrrrr too draggy. but all in all, a mark up from last year's. Good job all production people.

4. have been watching too much downloaded drama. yes i am a pirate and i am not ashamed to say it! so bite me.... Lost S2E10, Desperate Housewives S2E15, Grey's Anatomy S2E15 and The OC S3E13 heeeeeerre i come!!

on a totally unrealated note, it irks me how nice other people's blogs are. seriously. (and by that i am talking abt Miss Law Dingying). Damn u woman....heh

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

i do apologise to my loyal readers for not updating my blog more frequently.... i am plaqued with a disease... , which hinders me from doing so.... which i will tell u right abt now.

Ok, so you all know how very much i like to sleep. like more than your average normal human being. i can sleep like there is no tmr. APPARENTLY, my doctor friend (okok, not exactly doctor yet but studying medicine) told me that i may be suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome..... yes i kid you not. There's actually a disease allocated for people who sleep too much.... and it doesn't really bother me that i HAVE a disease.... it's the way they put it. CHRONIC.... like theres no cure (which actually is the case). and it sounds as if i am abt to die within the next half a year....

so me being me, with nothing much to do googled this unspeakable disease and here's wat i found:

"Chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, is a debilitating and complex disorder characterized by profound fatigue that is not improved by bed rest and that may be worsened by physical or mental activity. Persons with CFS most often function at a substantially lower level of activity than they were capable of before the onset of illness. In addition to these key defining characteristics, patients report various nonspecific symptoms, including weakness, muscle pain, impaired memory and/or mental concentration, insomnia, and post-exertional fatigue lasting more than 24 hours. In some cases, CFS can persist for years. The cause or causes of CFS have not been identified and no specific diagnostic tests are available.

Some other symptoms include abdominal pain, alcohol intolerance, bloating, chest pain, chronic cough, diarrhea, dizziness, dry eyes or mouth, earaches, irregular heartbeat, jaw pain, morning stiffness, nausea, night sweats, psychological problems (depression, irritability, anxiety, panic attacks), shortness of breath, skin sensations, tingling sensations, and weight loss."

So yeah, i am rather bothered now.... cos i swear i have at least 80% of those symptoms..... and the fact that my so called doctor fren Dr Chang, told me that there's no cure.... isnt really helping much either.

So yeah..... seriously. help me out here. DUN CALL OR SMS ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NITE..... cos i dun off my phone. so it disturbs my sleep. DO NOT DO NOT CALL ME OR SMS ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON!!! cos i will be having my afternoon naps. (somehow, it seems as if everyone hates me and calls me on my phone whenever i am having naps.... like every 5mins. seriously.... cosmic forces are playing a joke on me) this is a desperate plea.

with that said..... peace out y'all.....zzzZZZZ

today, while i was watching downloaded eps of grey's anatomy, i glanced into my mirror. and the awful awful truth FINALY hit me. i-am-FAT. i know, somewhere, someones wants to stab a fork into my eyeballs and hurt me so bad.... but seriously. it's all about the clothes man. they CONCEAL your fats so you look skinny.... and i was fooled by that.... for months.

i mean ok. i am not exactly morbid obese. but in all seriousness, have u since the state of my stomach recently? it is NOWHERE the abs of steel i wanted.... since puberty. it's like all the fats seem to want to congeal and congregate at my waist.... and that is driving me insane. And i noe those really fat people must be thinking i have some kind of ally-mcbeal-bulimic-anorexic syndrome. but no. i am really fat.

ya see, i am a scrawny man. so any excess fat around my tummy would make me look like a malnutritioned ethiopian.... and probably carrying the ebola virus..... and the same amt of fat if transfered onto say..... moses lim, he would only look extra bloated. thats why i say i am fat.

which is why i hauled myself out for a jog just now, which nearly caused my heart to rip and my knees to fall apart. seriously if i keep abusing my knees like that, i will be paralysed by the time i am 30. but HOWWWWWWWWWW tell me how to get rid of my tummy!!!!! i want abs of steel..... in fact, i want steel of EVERYTHING!

Organising a mahjong session with my friends is like watching an S-league soccer match. Its just a WHOLEEEEEE lotta waiting, and yet nothing ever happens. i hate it when pple are wishy washy. i hate it when pple cant seem to make up their minds. i hate it when promises are not kept. i want to play mahjong and i was given a GLIMMER of hope that it will happen tonight but NOOOOOOO. i was pang seh-ed and i am half-pissed.

i am NOT spontaneous. if things doesnt go the way i want them to, I FREAK OUT. spontaenity and me--- 2 totally different non-related things.... we mix together like oil and water. we dun click. we just dun. dun ask me why dammit.... i dun knowwwwwwwww!

Contrary to popular belief, i do club. in fact, i rather enjoy it. however, i only oblige to go on a very specific set of rules.

1. i have nice, presentable set of clothes to wear
2. i am comfortable with the people i am going with
3. i am feeling slightly rich
4. i am booked at least one week in advance (i lack spontaenity)

which probably explains why i club less than 10 times in my entire life. So it came as a shock (even to myself) when i agreed to go to eusoff hall bash, since it clearly violates rules 2, 3 and 4. especially rule number 4. (Being a metrosexual wannabe, i never ever violate rule number 1. its there just for show actually). i guess my brain must have been wired differently today when i woke up.....

i was quite excited to go... cos i'm quite sick of school. but phuture really sucks. the music sucks, there were too many people, even for a friday nite. singaporeans are truly a club-friendly bunch of people. maybe i should go open a club someday..... sure earn money. i digress. but got to knew some nicer eusoffians through chazz and xiling. yeah. not as stuck up as i think normal eusoffians are...

but things turn on a sour note when chazz, the resident angst ridden undergrad, had a foul mood due to the impermeable crowd cutting into us constantly. it turned so bad he had a mini scuffle with some guy. i mean i dun blame him.... the crowd was soooo bad, we were practically solid molecules vibrating about a fixed position. there was even a point when i swear i was making out with a column, simply because there were too many darn people.

but then again, no point spoiling everyone's fun by getting into an arguement right? (ok if anyone reads this, DO NOT under any circumstances ask chazz what happened. unless u hate me and wants to see me dead) i mean, yeah.... i love chazz to bits (as a friend, like i constantly say) but his wrath is something i would NOT want to cross path with, ever again.

was feeling a bit tired and my knees were too painful and weak. so i think i looked like a heroin junkie on the verge of having paralysis, still trying to act cool. aye. thank god we left soon after. in a jaguar no less. hehe. the perks of having rich friends....

saw rongwei before leaving!! havent seen him since school started! still looking good as usual, if not better!! was there with his supposed "we-are-just-normal-friends" girlfriend. hehe. u sly fox! its so nice to see him.... it's friends like him that remind me how great my life is. i mean, he obliged to go watch movie with me when i was having one of my mini breakdowns during first semester... (yes yes, i have breakdowns... go ahead. laugh). it made me feel tonnes better after and i owe him my life for that.

so yeah. what an eventful friday night isnt it? would have been better if more of our friends were there and the music didnt sucked ass..... haha.

Anyway, below are some of my funka pictures!! Dun you think i look so good in all the photossss?? i am so darn photogenic! if it isnt psychotic, i would marry myself....

So FINALLY swimming meet is over!! haha. it was a day of fashion faux pas, unsightly pubic hair and a day of utter flop-ness!! but it still felt good swimming competitively after one year (or half a year, after ibg. but then again, ibg's 25m is so ridiculous i hardly consider it a competition).

So i was placed the first swimmer for both free and breast. which i dun really like actually.... i prefer to know where i stand so i can better pace myself throughout. but oh well. it wouldnt have made any difference anyway.

at one point during the freestyle relay, i couldnt see anyone on either of my sides. so i figured, i was either 1. really fast, 2. really slow, or 3. there was a false start but my deaf ears didnt hear the whistle. But after some really deep thought, i guessed it was pretty much the second since i havent been training for long. and sure enough, i was the second last to touch the wall.... history truly repeats itself. how tragic.

but to console myself, the other halls had all types of ivp, nationals and even foreign imports, like the hungarian horntail, aptly named by chazz, who was incidentally wearing trunks with yellow volleyball pattern. 3 words-- fashion faux pas.

speaking of which, there were so many male swimmers wearing outrageously low hipster trunks that exposed some of (or rather the most of) their pubic hair. which to me is just unacceptable. i mean, if they wish to wear their trunks so low, the least and most civil thing the guys can do is to trim. like seriously. they display their pubic hair, as if something worth exhibiting. come on guys. everyone has pubic hair and there is no reason to let others see them. gross. otherwise, may i suggest getting a brazilian wax, which i contemplate having myself.... heheh. okok too much info here.

have fun y'all!

Dear Diary,

its only the 2nd week of school and i already cant breathe. i cant feel my pulse and my chest certainly isnt moving. i have a 33 hr week and that equates to no life. and due to my no life schedule, i cant go for one of my core modules tutorial.... after all sorts of permutations and combinations. why does shit like this always happen to me.... ta ma de

just went to cut my hair.... and sort of dyed it.... in a very not obvious color.... wondered if i wasted my money. i think i did. but i got my hair a nice 10min treatment, which cost me 25 bucks (just for treatment). i am like sooo broke now. maybe i should sue the hair salon for ripping me off.... damn u hair salons!!! (you guys better start complimenting my new hair cut and color or i will hack your heads off too)

the steppers are practicing outside my window now... which is quite annoying. i cant do my work. its half an hour to the Golden Globes. i am procastinating about writing my lab report and revising my notes. i noe its a bit early to revise anything. but i need my As. badly. Desperately.

i hope brokeback mountain wins..... considering its such a groundbreaking film.

oh ta ma de, my blk comm just jio-ed me to go chinatown for blk outing. i hate that place. and i hate crowds. i would rather spend the next 2 hours watching the golden globes. because i am such a banana. i dunno why pple like to use the word jio. its so...... boorish....and unrefined.... like crude oil. i hate that word. so people, STOP USING IT.

i am like writing a whole thesis on my nonsensical life here. if only i can write this much for my lab report. which i will start reading in like 10 seconds.

cant wait for tomorrow. tmr marks the last day of ihg.... for me. no more funka, no more ihg. life is good...... besides the fact that i have a 33hr week. but then you know that already, don't you?

peace out y'all

Wednesday, January 11, 2006

ok so i got into funka semis.... sorta have mixed feelings getting in. i'm happy... cos it means i'm not the lousiest team and i get to performa t taka. i'm semi- sian cos i have to practise the same dance for another week. which is super irritating. but i guess i just have to finish it. hopefully something good comes out of it

and AILI stop calling me the one who comes from changi.... u desker road woman. hehe. (somewhere in the background i hear sean paul's get busy playing and i see a cow shaking) you friggin' biatch!!!!

on a totally unrelated note, it has been raining for the past.... 36 hours. and it finally finally stopped. thank god. i need some sunshine in my life. i need to feel some heat in my fingers again

i am happy i made up with my fren again. i think we are ok. i hope. he seems to be friendly to me again. which is good. i never meant to put him down. he should know that i love him... as a friend (yes i love my friends, even if they are guys, and i am not afraid to say that out loud) and i never in any way wanted to make him feel like shit. so there.

i feel fat. i have a blob of thing hanging round my mid section. i am incoherent and i am so tired. i should stop writing. but i will not. because i have my loyal fans to entertain. i am monologuing.

stop messing with my brain. arghhhhhh.

Sunday, January 01, 2006

so here i am... finally decided to haul ass and keep up with this blog... this i hope wudnt be my last post. considering school is about to start and being a lazy pig, i cant picture myself having this kind of discipline. alrighty. anyway, here are some of the top memorable moments of 2005 (in no particular order)!!

1. IHG Swimming. we were the underdogs.... and we came out acheiving better than expected! (2nd or third i think). no thanks to all the disqualifications made by the other halls. haha losers!

2. dance nite 2005. definitely a night to remember. the high of performing. dancing with my best friend. whats there not to like? too bad my friends werent there to support. but thats fine

3. rag dance!! i absolutely LOVED the experience! although the prince of darkness is no more, but the memories of it all was well worth months of practice. thanks step for being a fantastic choreo!

4. Stepping down as block comm. nuff said.

5. cost of vodka: $50
cost of boxers: $10
cost of me merlioning wearing only my boxers: priceless
thanks to chazz for clearing up my puke. lynn for giving me one tight slap and zhonghan + JP for making me feel that merlioning is no big deal. but no more man.... no more

6. funkamania 05/06. this hasnt exactly happened yet but i mean.... yeah. come support KONVICTS on 7th jan NUS forum!

7. my Europe trip!! c'est magnifique! from arguing about how to cook maggi mee to eating wierd cheese. from getting lost in the streets of venice to the shopping at champs elysees. from the theatres of the west end to the chapels in barcelona. i would do it all over again with my 2 bestest frens. in a hearbeat.

8. campfire for mr teo. hosting and leading songs for the 2nd time brought some nostlagia of yesteryears. i cant believe it's been 10 years of being a scout. once a scout, always a scout. truly.

9. falling out with my supposed best fren in hall. it was a stupid misunderstanding ( i think). i mean, i dun think it was my fault (i hope). i wished it didnt happen. it's so tragic. arghhh.

10. the day i got my results. this last sem of 2005..... whoa. best sem ever. keep up the good work man!

11. Xmas and New Year. Went to my first official Xmas party at Step's house. great food. great company. played mahjong the whole night. woohoo! watched fireworks at skee's house. great view. great company! woohoo!

so. 2005 came and went by. it was truly a year ful of unexpected surprises... full of twists and turns worthy of a hollywood epic. i am beginning to enjoy my university life more. made some new friends. danced my heart out. i'm lovin' it! hopefully 2006 will bring me to greater heights!
Happy New Year guys!

death by chocolate..... totally. just came back from the much raved abt chocolate buffet at fullerton. OMG..... death by chocolate. i had to say it again. its waaaaay to much chocolate, even for willy wonka. i think i might have to self induce myself into puking. its terrible.

actually my frens and i didnt have a table.... cos my dear fren carol didnt book (so inefficient). so we ended up waiting and looking like some desperate pple trying to getourselves into some posh restaurant. we could smell the chocolate fountain from where we were waiting. and we wanted to kill those pple taking the food.

in the end we got a table (after carol and skee worked their female charm on the waiter.... seriously.... some womanly charms do work) ok. before we went to the buffet, we made a note to pace oursleves...... but i obviously didnt..... and i pretty much KOed after one hour, eating nothing but some fancy fusion of green tea & chocolate, chocolate fondue.... chocolate cake..... more chocolate cake. in the end we just ended eating the fruits, withour chocolate. cos it was just too much. i can still smell the cocholate fountain..... and it makes me wanna barf.

so we finally gave up and went to maxwell to have some real solid food. wahhhhh it feels good to have something warm and salty in my mouth...... seriously. chocolate buffet is a once in a lifetime thing..... i wun ever go back...... even if u bring me there in a sedan or pay for it. i am swearing off chocolate for at least one month. barf.

feeling very musical-ish after coming back from an absolutely mazing performance of RENT, i have decided to rank all the muscials i have watched in my short 22 years of living:

1. Phantom of the Opera
this huge mama of musicals is definitely the most amazing and grand. the sets are stunning and the songs are pretty much super well knowned. watched it 4 times, once in singapore when i was in pri6, twice in the cinema and once more in london's west end (tickets that cost me a whopping 37.50 pounds.... which roughly equates to over $110). the story is pretty simple. girls unknowingly becomes a huge sensation in opera business. girl meets boy. boy meets girl. both fall in love. girl's ugly mentor (but oozing tonnes of sexual charms) gets jealous and sparks off a series of misfortunes on the opera. mentor holds girl captive. boys held captive too (wat a wuss). mentor lets both go and escaped back into his lair. the end. The story might be simple but the songs are way captivating.

2. Chicago
Again, another musical that has a hollywood adaptation. didnt actually watch the musical until only after the movie version. also watched it in london's west end. stellar performances (although not necessarily from brooke shield's roxie hart) and fabulous dancing fromt he stars and ensemble. witty dialogue and a wierd stage setting. the band is right smack in the centre of the stage. good usage of props and overall choreography. definitely worth your money.

3. Rent
hehe okok so i just came back from the show so i may be a bit biased. i absolutely loved the show! although it had quite a sluggish start but it started to pick up the pace in the middle of the first act. i loved maureen and the cow-jumping-over-the-moon thing. hilarious. tom's heart wrenching rendition of I'll cover you..... mimi and rogers' light my candle (i love love love this song).... the all star la vie boheme and of course, seasons of love! i love love loved it. and more importantly, it touches on issues which are, erm well, close to heart. cant wait for the movie version coming to our shores in 2006!

4. Blood brothers
ok i don't think a lot of people would have heard of this. once again, rich little me watched this in london's phoenix theatre. actually this is a major sad story. twins that are brought up in 2 different families. one rich one poor. both meet at a young age at the playground but doesnt know about each other yet. both fall in love with the same girl. all become good friends. girl marries the poor dude. but sees the rich one occassionally, purely as friends. poor dude gets jealous and kills his own brother. and in turn gets killed by the police.

"So, did y'hear the story of the Johnstone twins?
As like each other as two new pins
Of one womb born, on the self same day
How one was kept and one given away?
An' did you never hear how the Johnstone's died
Never knowing they shared one name
Till the day they died."

i still get shivers down my spine whenever i hear this. not a bad choice if you are tight on budget.

5. Les Miserables
lots of pple love this, but i beg to differ. highly overrated musical..... about the french revolution (like i give a shit)...... so so music. erm. i cant even remember the story. probably because i was late for the show and dun really know much about the history and stuff. so i didnt appreciate it that much.... yeah. so i guess i wouldnt be watching again anytime soon in the theatre unless someone don't mind paying to change my mind. hehe.
